Of this painter from Purmerend Jan Stapper, born in 1875 and died in 1964, the murals in the café De Bonte Koe on the Koemarkt in Purmerend are the most famous examples of his work. In the collection of the museum, there are, however, several small pieces with mostly scenes from Purmerend. Stapper is especially talented in painting landscapes and portraits.
Jan Stapper was also a pottery painter at the ceramics factory of Weduwe Brantjes and combined all his work as a painter with the exploitation of a shop in Amsterdam.
