Marie Sinclair, Countess of Caithness (1830 – 1895), is particularly remembered for her interest in spiritualism and theosophy and her association with Helena Blavatsky, whose occult successor she claimed to be.
The book offered here is very rare and valuable in itself (containing very interesting testimonies about spiritualist phenomena, as a result of detailed experiments and verifications), but the following elements make it unique:
1. Wonderful ex libris of the countess, an image that also appears on the covers of some of the books she wrote.
2. Holographic notes on the title page attributable to the countess, (e.g. he really stayed in London, Portland Place - see A. Pert, Red cactus: the life of Anna Kingsford).
3. Inside the book I found a sheet of paper with a monogram in relief, with strange and interesting holographic notes (different designations, names, in various languages, correspond to a musical note).
On the site shakespeare.org.uk blogs words of love you will be able to find a letter of Countess of Caithness (uncontested as origin), and comparing it with the document I found, it will be very easy to see that it is the writing of the same person.
With the exception of the first pages, quite stained, in essence the book is clean on the inside. Minor underline with pencil. Small to medium problems at the binding.
