Wood music box from late 1800s, spring mechanism, winding lever, lock lever, landscape illustration inside.
8 discs with diameter 15.8 cm.
5 discs with toothed edge, 11.4 not authentic.
Made in Germany by Symphonion, Fabrik-Lochmannscher-Musikwerke, Leipzig-Gohlis. Symphonion, founded in 1886 by the Lochmann brothers, produced the first music boxes with perforated discs, forerunners of the phonograph. Please refer to the following: Ord-Hume, Arthur W.J.G. The Musical Box - A Guide for Collectors, Schiffer Publishing Ltd. 1995. p. 302. It is also recommended to visit the website of the Museum Collection in Moscow.
Working instrument, nice sound, but the mechanism must be overhauled. Wooden box in acceptable conditions, damages and cracks, patina of time, woodworm holes treated in the past, one tab of the comb is missing, one spring is damaged. Discs with rust and rounded surfaces (see photographs)
