Joe Cassano is considered, despite the small number of works published, one of the greatest exponents of Italian hip hop in the nineties. Chekos art Born in 1977 in Lecce, a small town in southern Italy, he moved to Milan at the age of 13, where he grew up in the graffiti underground of the old Milanese school. A graphic artist, muralist and street artist, he works in the field of urban art with a strong personal style. His works can be admired in the city quarters and along the streets of Italy, Poland, Germany, France, Luxembourg and Spain, and, thanks to his natural xenophilia, he has also painted on the walls of Xiemen (China), Yogyakarta (Indonesia), Tetovo (Macedonia), Vlorë (Albania) and more. He actively participated in numerous festivals, exhibitions and art projects in Italy and abroad. His mural paintings attack the strong social contrasts, representing ‘paths of historical memory’ - through giant pictures of faces, symbol of urban spaces where he works. From popular icons to the great masters of the past, Chekos’ art is leaving indelible footprints, aiming not only to redevelop the grey areas of cities but also to communicate with the younger generation. In 2012 he founded the 167/B Street lab.
