油彩、畫布 - Hand signed - Circa 1920

Sold with certificate of authenticity from Mr. Thierry TUFFIER, specialist in painters of the Ecole de Rouen and Ecole Normande.

Pierre Dumont was born in Paris in 1884. He belongs to the second generation of the Normandy School. He forged a reputation with his first Impressionist paintings in 1903. In 1904, he became associated with Robert-Antoine Pinchon and participated in the fauvist movement.
In 1910, he returned to Paris, met Apollinaire, and founded the "Golden Section" with his friends before becoming part of the Cubist movement for a short time. In 1913 he moved to the Bateau-Lavoir, where he met Gris, Picabia, and Max Jacob.
Gradually, his use of paint became thicker and meatier. He “built” his paintings almost in three dimensions. His favourite subjects: cathedrals and other monuments.
He then moved to Gasny (near Giverny) for his health. He painted the Vernon area, the Roche-Guyon, and the Andelys. Mr. Sporck became his patron. This helped him a lot at a time when he was suffering from gradually worsening paralysis.
Pierre Dumont died on April 9th, 1936.
